Via Francigena in Valdelsa

Historic trail

Colle di Val d’Elsa lies on stage 32, between San Gimignano and Monteriggioni. You can follow the main route through town or the more natural alternative passing Quartaia and the Le Vene springs.

🥾 Francigena🏛️ History

Quartaia → Le Vene

Recommended

Follow the alternative Via Francigena route from Quartaia towards Le Vene through the peaceful countryside, along unpaved lanes, woods, small churches and farms. Reaching the springs is the coolest and most scenic part.

Le Vene

Springs

A natural place closely linked to Colle’s history. These abundant springs, known since Etruscan times, increase the river’s flow and help transform the “Dead Elsa” into the “Living Elsa”.
